  • Overview

BTEC Music is a new and exciting course for Runshaw College. It is equivalent to 3 A Levels and is designed for students who have a passion for Music and do not wish to study any other subject.

As a music student at Runshaw you will enjoy our superb music facilities, which include a specialist studio with grand piano, digital piano, and five spacious, well-equipped practice rooms.

Our teachers are highly qualified, experienced examiners many of whom are graduates of leading UK Conservatoires of Music and are professional musicians who perform extensively. We already have an excellent track record of results on our current BTEC Music courses, with 100% pass rate and the majority of students achieving a Merit or above.

  • Entry Requirements

Entry onto the course will be achieved through a performance audition, alongside the college entry requirement of 5 GCSE’s at Grade C or above, including a C grade in GCSE Music. If you have not studied GCSE Music, then you will require ABRSM Grade 3 Music Theory qualification by the time you enrol on the course.

  • How will I be assessed?

Assessments take place throughout the year through practical observations, assignments and written exams.

Your practical work will be graded: Pass, Merit or Distinction. The work is collated in a portfolio of evidence. Your tutors will provide you with feedback to be logged in your learning journal ensuring you are fully prepared for all assessments.

  • Progression Pathway

Our Music students in recent years have progressed to:
