    Gain skills and a qualification in creating high quality audio recording, with use of our Music Studio. Advanced Audio Engineering is a two year course which will give you the opportunity to develop practical skills and theoretical knowledge in music technology. Students who enjoy and successfully complete this subject will gain a single vocational qualification, which is equivalent in point score to a complete A level, and will typically progress to further undergraduate study.

  • Overview

    This is a vocational course designed for competent creative musicians with interests in creating high quality audio recordings.

    We have a range of industry standard facilities including a Mac Suite with the most recent Pro Tools software and a recording studio with two live rooms, a large control room, and a Pro Tools HD system.

    The Music department facilities also include a suite of six practice rooms containing electric and acoustic pianos. All students get unlimited access to the facilities outside of lesson times.

    We also organise a range of extra-curricular music activities including instrumental bands and ensembles, Jazz and Popular Music workshops, concerts and concert tours (both local and international).

    You will study:

    • multi track recording in the studio
    • music production using a Digital Audio Workstation
    • creating a finished audio product (mastering)
    • sound design
    • music technology in performance
    • the music producer – listening skills


  • Entry Requirements

    A minimum of 5 x Grade 5s including GCSE Music OR Grade 3 in ABRSM Music Theory.

  • How will I be assessed?

    The course is a single Vocational Option within the A Level Programme and is equivalent in point score, on completion of Year 2, to a complete A Level.

    Year 1: Edexcel Certificate in Music Technology (Production)
    Year 2: Edexcel Subsidiary Diploma in Music Technology (Production) examination

  • Progression Pathway

    The Advanced Audio Engineering course gives you an in-depth knowledge of sound engineering, sound recording, music production and applies these skills to a range of contemporary scenarios.

    This qualification is well respected in the industry and is highly valued for entrance to under-graduate study.
