A Level – Economics

Economics offers a unique insight into how the world works and will help you to understand many of the big questions facing people today, such as:

• How are families and businesses affected by major shocks such as Brexit or the pandemic?
• What can we do about climate change?
• Would patients pay more tax for a better NHS?

Economics provides students with the skills to analyse issues to a high standard and provides an excellent foundation for higher education in such areas as economics, finance, business, management and accountancy, politics and philosophy. Recent students have progressed to degree courses at Oxford, Cambridge, the London School of Economics and Warwick University.

We run two residential visits each year, past trips have included visits to: Beijing, Italy, Belgium and New York.

You will study:

• how markets work and why they fail
• balance of payments and international trade
• developing countries and globalisation
• economic growth and recessions
• economics of the UK and Europe
• government economic policy
• inflation
• unemployment

There are written examinations in each year, which cover the content of the specification.
