    Bienvenida a España. A Level Spanish is a two year course which will give you the opportunity to study a range of topics, including ‘los valores tradicionales y modernos, el ciberespacio, la igualdad de los sexos, la influencia de los ídolos, la identidad regional en España, el patrimonio cultural, la inmigración, el racismo y la convivencia, los jóvenes y la política, monarquías y dictaduras y los movimientos populares’. In addition to this, you will study a Spanish-speaking film and novel. Many students who enjoy and successfully complete this subject typically progress onto a range of degree courses including Languages and other disciplines such as Medicine, Law and Humanities. Everyday classroom conversation is in Spanish and our very experienced teachers coach, guide and encourage students to use Spanish confidently and spontaneously in real life situations.

    Runshaw’s team of MFL teachers are highly experienced A Level teachers and examiners.They are committed to helping you achieve your very best and preparing you for success. You will receive extra coaching each week to prepare you for the oral exam and will have access to hundreds of resources and interactive language learning media.

    Much of the time in class you will be working in your chosen language of study and you will develop your knowledge and understanding of not just your chosen language, but its culture and society.

    The A Level course builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills gained at GCSE.

    • you will further develop your expertise by studying one prescribed text and one prescribed film
    • you will undertake an independent research project in your chosen language

     

    The study of a Modern Foreign Language at A Level is both challenging and satisfying and requires a high level of student commitment; however, the rewards are immense and equip you with a range of transferable skills including communication, critical thinking, research skills and creativity.

  • Entry Requirements

    A minimum of 5x Grade 5s, including English Language and Grade 6 in your chosen language.

  • How will I be assessed?

    Your language skills are assessed in external exams at the end of Year 2. In addition to listening and reading comprehensions, you will translate unseen texts, summarise unseen texts and write one essay in your chosen language on a prescribed book and one essay in your chosen language on a prescribed film.

    Your oral competence is assessed in a 20-minute unscripted speaking test.

    Linguists are the second most employable graduate category after medics. Studying a foreign language can lead to work in international business, law, management, marketing, publishing, journalism and living and working abroad.
