    The Professional Accounting Taxation Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship will involve you working in an accounts department, taking on more responsibility in supporting a business or organisation manage their money properly. Running a business involves a lot of financial activities, from expenses and bills to taxes and payroll. Accountants keep track of all these areas and more. It takes a business brain, as well as a way with numbers, to get ahead.

  • Overview

    AAT

    Individuals in the role of Professional Accounting will have responsibility for creating, and / or verifying and reviewing, accurate and timely financial information within the organisation in which they are employed or on behalf of another organisation. This will be performed in order to meet relevant ethical, professional and legal standards, and will utilise the individual’s knowledge of the business systems and processes, as well as standard accounting and tax practices. This role may exist in an accounting practice, a professional services company, HMRC or the accounting function of a business or other organisation. A Professional Tax Technician will be required to have knowledge and understanding of the core elements of personal taxation and accounting principles.

    They will be required to prepare tax calculations, prepare government forms, understand and comply with filing deadlines, and document client paperwork. Depending on their role they will also have specialist knowledge in other areas of taxation, for example Business Compliance, VAT, Inheritance Tax, Trusts and Estates and Corporate

  • Entry Requirements

    5 x GCSEs A*-C / 9-4.

    Please note that employers may stipulate higher entry requirements than those listed and should therefore be treated as the minimum entry criteria. However, if you do not currently meet the entry requirements for the apprenticeship you wish to apply for, you may also be considered based on related subject qualifications and/or life/work experience or upon successfully achieving the required Basic and Key Skill Builder (BKSB) results.

    Should you not hold GCSE English at A*-C / 9-4 and / or Maths at A*-D / 9-3 or equivalent you may have the opportunity to complete a functional skills course alongside your apprenticeship. Suitability will be determined following an initial assessment and diagnostic. Your programme duration may be extended to allow for functional skills.

  • How will I be assessed?

    Candidates will build a portfolio of evidence containing examples of work-based evidence, observations and written work. Each candidate will be allocated a qualified work-based assessor who will assess the candidate’s practical skills and competence in the workplace.

  • Employer Requirements

    Employers must be prepared to work with their Apprentices to develop their knowledge and skills by providing a wide range of learning and training opportunities. They must also be prepared to allow them to attend College sessions at the agreed times. Employers are also expected to encourage Apprentices to research their chosen vocation and to support any work experience that will benefit the Apprentice to come up to reach the required level of competence.

  • Progression Pathway

    Looking further ahead to possible progressions, this standard will provide the foundation to start a number of career pathways including Audit Trainee, Corporate Recovery Analyst, Credit Controller or Tax Accountant.

  • Attendance & Support

    Runshaw College believes that attendance and punctuality are key factors in the timely success of an apprenticeship. Apprentices are accepted on the basis that they will have a high level of attendance at college (if applicable) and in the workplace. Persistent or regular absenteeism is a disciplinary offence and may lead to dismissal from the programme.

    Runshaw apprentices will be offered support and be encouraged to develop the ability to work on their own and as team players. We expect our apprentices to show enthusiasm and the motivation to reach and exceed their goals.

    It is important to maintain time keeping and attendance for both college (if applicable) and workplace sessions to ensure learners remain on target.
