- Overview
Runshaw College is an approved centre for UAL Awarding Body Level 2 in Art & Design.
In this one year course you will complete eight units, exploring a wide range of 2D, 3D and moving image media, techniques and processes, working through the design process, completing primary research from which you will create initial ideas, and then developing these into a final piece. You will use the work of other artists for inspiration, as well as analysing and evaluating your own art work. At the end of the course, you will complete a personal project for Unit 8, where you will write your own brief and start to select media, techniques and processes you have previously enjoyed. As part of the course you will also study English and/or Maths and will develop employability skills.
Course Highlights:
Personal final major project, 100% coursework and end of year show
‘Time for Tea’ was a one-day pop-up exhibition to showcase the Level 2 Art and Design students’ work. The theme was food and students created a range of 3D outcomes in clay, felt, wire and cardboard. Staff and students were invited to view and celebrate the fantastic work on display.
- Entry Requirements
For our Level 2 Pre-Advanced courses our entry requirements are 4 x GCSEs at Grade 3, Maths or English Language/Literature at Grade 3 and Grade 2 in the other subjects. Level 2 courses last for 1 year.
Please note, some courses and subjects will have additional specific entry requirements or require DBS clearance to undertake placements. Information about this can be found in our course leaflet (available to download above), the Apply Portal, and on your offer letter which you will receive after your interview.
Minimum requirements: Grade 3 in GCSE Art (or equivalent) or a successful portfolio.
- How will I be assessed?
By internally assessed coursework throughout the year and end of year external moderation. Coursework includes both practical artwork and written analysis/evaluation where you will be expected to reflect on your own and other artists’ work. Unit 8, a personal project, is assessed as Pass, Merit or Distinction, and this Unit 8 grade forms the whole qualification grade.
- Progression Pathway
Most students enter onto this course to enable them to progress on to the Level 3 Art & Design or Graphics course. You can also choose to progress onto other non-art Level 3 courses within the college, an Apprenticeship or employment.
