Picture this: a studio with the facility to take a photo and image manipulate it in our photography suites or dark room. A Level Photography is a two year course which will give you the opportunity to form a personal enquiry and expression using the selection and manipulation of images. Students who enjoy and successfully complete this subject typically progress onto Photography or art and design related degrees. Our excellent facilities include a darkroom and lighting studio.

Photography at Runshaw offers an in-depth knowledge of both traditional and digital processes. The course allows students to start at the very basics of photography incorporating analogue camera work, darkroom and film processes and experimental historic processes; this is then complimented by the introduction of using digital equipment and software such as Photoshop and Lightroom.
Runshaw has a dedicated photography studio with a great range of lighting and props and a fully equipped black and white darkroom.
You will be taught in specialist, purpose built studios and workshops, by teachers who have worked in the industry in a variety of different fields, supported by a subject specialist technician.
Photography students have the opportunity to:
- go on study visits to galleries and photography festivals in London, Bradford and Liverpool
- undertake real-life briefs and enter work into competitions
- create a portfolio of work
- work with peers to organise a final group exhibition

- Entry Requirements
Our A Level programme requires a minimum of 5 GCSE subjects at Grade 5.
This must include a Grade 5 in Art & Design or Photography or a portfolio of your work.

- 60% internally assessed
- 40% externally set examination
- Progression Pathway
This A Level will enable potential progression to university on to a Photography or Art-related degree course, or a pre-degree Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. Both could lead to an art or design-related career, or an excellent accompaniment for anyone wishing to go into a career within journalism or the television industry.
