  • Overview

You will be taught in purpose-built studios with a dedicated print studio and access to an art study room when working outside of lesson time. Enrichment activities include trips to art exhibitions, museums, and university taster days. You will also have the opportunity to join our Art Academy.

After completing the course you will be able to progress to university to an Art-related degree course or within Runshaw to our Foundation Diploma in Art & Design.

    What will I study?

You will be taught a wide range of techniques, encompassing, in part, oil and acrylic painting, mono printing, etching, screen printing, large experimental drawing and large-scale paintings on canvas, wood and metal.

You will work in sketchbooks, as well as on paper, boards, and canvas on a variety of scales. There is an option to present part of your development work in a digital format and some students choose to display final outcomes in a sculptural 3D or installation-based style.

As part of all practical projects, you will also complete:

    • critical and visual analysis of visual sources, to inspire your own artwork
    • drawing and recording: drawing from direct observation will be expected throughout the course
